eleven days

As I sat down to read the Scriptures this morning, I ventured back to Deuteronomy (I have to admit I’ve skipped some Old Testament reading in my yearly Bible reading plan this year. ;) ) I wasn’t quite sure what God would have for me there but after reading just a few lines I read something that I can’t ever recall reading before: “Normally, it takes only eleven days to travel of Mount Sinai to Kadesh-barnea…” (Deut. 1:2, NLT) Eleven days? So, what’s the big deal? Well, what should have taken the Israelites ELEVEN DAYS took them FOURTY YEARS…or, by simple calculation: 14,600 DAYS!  You see, God wanted to give the Promised Land to the Israelites and they were a short eleven day journey away from receiving this amazing gift from the Lord but instead they bickered, doubted and rebelled their way to a journey that would last 14,600 days. That absolutely blows my mind.  There’s so much more to this story but the question for now is “what is taking us years that God could do in days?”  What issue has handcuffed you for years that you could be on the way to defeating in a few weeks if you faced it head on and seriously dealt with it?  Eleven days or forty years? It is up to us.

  1. the root here is faith, they had no faith even when they where still in egypt. They had no faith even after charelton hes,,,,I mean moses asked God for help and the waters were parted. I think they all had like an american culture problem,,,,I want it now, trusting the Lord means waiting on Him, just like we wait for a tax refund,,,,or not I guess a lot of people here get the refund advance. Maybe when God told em not to stash no mana he was tryin to burn that one out of em,,,maybe. Waiting can be enjoyable when confidence is high.

  2. WOW, that’s awsome!!! The one huge thing is becoming a foster parent or adopting. I just keep putting that off. Thanks for the reminder. Have a great day.

  3. Powerful thought. I don’t think I can even express my thoughts but I am going to try and I hope you can hear my heart. I think about Israel at that time and I can see the same actions today. The old, set in there ways but full of pride, the middle aged, let’s not rock the boat, two sets of young, it will work out, we will get there when we get there, and very few say eleven days! We will do it in one and when we get there we will kick some butt. What a mix of people, The sad part is that some died in that wilderness, and missed out on the gift and promise of God while on this earth. Where do I fit, in all ALL of them!! I’m set in my ways and full of pride, I don’t rock the boat, and after I do it all and kick some butt, we will get there when we get there. God said my people perish without vision KJV Acts: 2:17 “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions; your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my spirit and they will prophesy. Paul encouraged Timothy, 2 Timothy 1:6 I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. I pray this for all of us that we can believe, the spirit of God in us that we can believe that God has given us dreams and visions to prophesy for his purpose and that we can encourage one another to fan into flame the spirit of God in all of us.

  4. Art – you are so right…Faith was a big part of what the Isrealites were missing and they had seen God do so much…reminds me of me sometimes. :)

Marla – I pray that you have the courage and faith to do what God is directing you to do.

Brent – wow, so much there. I love your passion to press into the power of God. There is so much there that we miss out on. Love it!
